Coffee has always been present in the life of the Albanians. It was introduced during the time of the Ottoman Empire and widely used throughout Albania.Turkish coffee is prepared in the traditional way in an XHEZVE filled with water, adding sugar according to personal taste and coffee in the end. Stirring and waiting for the coffee to boil. The coffee can be bought ready, roasted and grounded or it can be roasted and ground manually and the house will be filled with its distinctive aroma. The coffee is roasted on a flame rotating and rotating on QEBAP and then hand ground with MULLIRI (small manual mill). This gives the coffee a taste of its own and does it even better. Coffee is widely used during parties accompanied by candies or llokum but also in cases of mourning. Over time, supernatural values such as predicting the future were added to the coffee. This ritual consists of turning the cup of coffee, reading the images and letters created by the coffee residues in the cup.  Obviously it should not be taken too seriously, but it is always a pleasant and interesting experience, even if there are many people who can swear and prove the cases in which the forecasts have become reality.

With this guide, you can enter at the home of a family in Berat and have the opportunity to closely watch the preparation of homemade coffee. Enjoy a Turkish coffee accompanied by llokum or candy, an alcoholic beverage or a domestic brandy (over 30 types of homemade raki from many types of fruit or mixed with different plants or fruits). You can try a homemade gliko from the lady of the house (you can choose from more than 10 types of gliko). You can chat and ask questions about lifestyle, customs and local customs handed down over the years. If you wish, you may also be aware of a person who can read the coffee residue to predict the future (understandably without taking it too seriously and without having to make coffee forecasts).
